A: Appearance
1) Describe yourself as someone meeting you for the first time would see you.
Faelia stands at five feet, six inches tall. Hair the color of pale gold falls straight and thick to her back, a lock cut just past the length of her jaw framing either side of her face and her bangs usually swept off to the side. Her eyes can be anywhere from a startling jade green, to a green tinted gray to the color of green pine needles depending on her emotions. Her skin is lightly tanned, fair by nature and sun-kissed from all the time she spends out in the wilds. Her body is slender and lithe with moderately sized breasts and a slender waist that leads to gentle, curving hips. She's lithely muscled, especially in her arms suggesting that she's an archer of sorts. She is usually seen wearing a forest green traveling dress of felt with a pleated skirt trimmed in a dull yellow hue. She wears a pale studded leather breastplate across her chest with fingerless over the elbow gloves and thigh high boots to match it along with a matching belt. She is very rarely seen without her most treasured bow, Alondrelle, and usually has a greatsword strapped to her back for unknown reasons since she very rarely uses it.
2) What other details would someone notice on a closer look? (Distinguishing marks, birthmarks, scars, etc?)
She sports a long scar that trails from just above her right hip down diagonally across her abdomen, an old battle scar. She has a birthmark on her lower back just above the swell of the right side of her rear end and a small, two inch long scar stretching across her left shoulderblade.
3) Do you have a distinctive way of speaking or any other mannerisms or memorable behavior?
Faelia is quiet and ever watchful. She has a tendency to listen and observe the things going on around her even when it appears that she has no interest in them. Her voice is heavily accented with Sylvan, common being a language she's not quite used to and she almost always carries her composite long bow with her even when she has no intention of using it. Her step is light and graceful, never leaving a sound in her wake and almost appearing to glide over surfaces. She tends to have a stony, unreadable expression and it is very difficult to tell what she's thinking.
B: Birth and Family
1) Where and when were you born?
Born in a hidden elven village in the Northwood by the name of Irithyll, Faelia's birth was marked by a glorious, bright sunny day in Autumn just as the leaves had finished turning colors.
2) Who are your parents?
Her mother was, as she is, a ranger by the name of Syrielle while her father was a scout named Kelthiir.
3) Do you have any siblings?
Faelia has no siblings that she is aware of.
C: Education and Work
1) Did you serve an apprenticeship in order to learn your current profession/class? For how long?
training under the guidance of her mother, a long tradition spanning the family, Faelia learned the ways of the forest and the bow from the time that she could stand until reaching maturity.
2) If you were not an apprentice, how did you learn your trade/skills/ect? Formal schooling? Informal Teachers? Self-Taught?
N/A
3) Who was your master or teacher? (Race? Gender? Appearance? Personality?) Is he/she still alive? How were you treated? Are/Were you on good terms with your master?
Syrielle, a woman of dark haired beauty and emerald eyes, trained Faelia in her Ranger ways. A cool, collected woman, Syrielle never lost her temper and always tempered herself with control and discipline. She died just after Faelia reached adulthood but she lived a long, full life. Faelia forever aspires to be like her, taking her mother's training and wisdom to heart and honoring her memory by carrying the family heirloom, Alondrelle, with her.
4) Due to the rarity of literacy in this setting, how important are books, writings, letters, ect. to your character? Regardless as to whether or not he/she can read?
Faelia places great importance upon reading, mostly for practicalities sakes. She does not condone the destruction of the written word unless absolutely necessary to thwart an evil purpose or see to the safety of others.
D: Friends
1)Who were your friends as a child? As an adolescent? As an adult?
As a child, Faelia grew up with a fellow elf by the name of Kytus who was her only and longest companion.
2) Who is/was your best friend? What is the most memorable thing that the two of you ever did together?
Kytus was Faelia's best friend for the majority of her life. The thing she remembers the most of their time together is going out for their patrols, which sometimes would last for days, and talking beneath the stars of the night sky around a camp fire.
5) Have you ever been in love?
Faelia has fallen in love only once in her life, ironically with her childhood friend Kytus.
E: Attitudes and Beliefs
1) What are your beliefs about religion and the afterlife? Do you follow any particular god or gods? What appeals to you most about this religion? Least?
Faelia firmly believes in reincarnation, that once she dies her body will be taken back into therafim itself and that her soul will return to Matra where the goddess will craft for her a new body that she will use to further garner wisdom and knowledge until her soul ascends to a higher plane of existence and becomes one with the goddess herself. She is a strict follower of Matra, believing that she provides for all of her children with the fruits of her world for those who know where and how to look. She is a firm believer in protecting the balance of nature and letting nature take it's course. What appeals most to Faelia about this religion is the destruction of undead, a blight upon the whole world of therafim she believes, and living at one with the natural world around her. She believes that the various races are to be care givers to the world Matra has created. To guide and protect it, never to rule over or dominate it.
2) Where do spirits of nature, the elements and the dead fit into these beliefs?
the undead are a bane upon the world of therafim and affront to nature as far as Faelia is concerned. She does not tolerate their existence, seeing it as her duty to rid them from the world as best she can. The spirits of nature are to be respected and she believes in living peacefully with them.
4) What is your moral code? Under what conditions will you kill? Steal? Lie? Do you have a personal code of behavior about violence? Magic? Sex? Dealing with Evil Beings?
Faelia is driven by her duty to protect the natural world around her and the people in it. When innocent lives are threatened or those making themselves a complete bane upon nature do not heed her warnings, she resorts to violence with intent to kill. She does not condone lying though there is something to be said for technicalities. She prefers to resort to violence only when an agreement or compromise cannot be reached. She believes magic to be a powerful, sometimes corrupting influence and thus treats casters with a hint of respect and caution. Sex is something completely natural and beautiful to her. It is a bond between two people who care for one another and will stand by each other. It is to be used as an emotional bonding between people as much for pleasure and is not something to be thrown around. She will permit evil creatures to exist unless they are undead, outsiders or threaten the existence of innocent people or the wilds themselves.
5) How committed are you to seeing through something (a task, quest, bargain, etc) that you have started?
She always keeps her word, always does her best and always finds a way to fulfill her duty. There is no such thing as an 'almost' complete task. It is either done or it is not. There is no room for anything in between.
6) How important are the following to you?: Power, Wealth, Fame, Honor, Family, Friends, Love, Knowledge, Religion, Your job? To what lengths would you go to acquire or preserve these things?
Faelia cares not for power, wealth or fame. However, she is a very honor-bound person who will go out of her way to ensure the safety of those who cannot fend for themselves. She is an incredibly loyal, steadfast friend when she has any and love is a bond she treasures when she finds though she's not very good at expressing it. Knowledge and wisdom are to be garnered and used to fulfill her duties and to enlighten her soul and she is willing to pass them on to anyone who is willing to learn provided they show themselves to be worthy. Her fealty to Matra helps drive her onward and she believes it is this spirituality which makes her part of who she is and she will go so far as to kill to protect these things.
7) How often do you remember your dreams? How much attention do you pay to them? Do they inspire you? Guide you? Inspire You? Warn you? Frighten You?
She remembers her dreams most of the time though usually they are visions from the past that had a large impact on her in some way or another. Some she uses to help guide her on her chosen path and fortify her sense of duty, others she tries to use to guide herself to avoid similar situations again but others still are frightening and those are the ones she wishes she could erase from her memory entirely. There is a darkness in her past that has managed to shape part of who she is, a part that she keeps to herself and suffers in relative silence.
8) What is your attitude towards magic? People who use it? Fearsome monsters? The unknown in general?
She accepts magic as a responsibility. It is to be used for the betterment of the world and the people in it, not as a means to control or dominate living things. She respects magic casters when she confronts them, regarding them also with a sense of caution because she firmly believes that those with power will often seek to use it for their own gain. Monsters are monsters, they cannot help what they are nor their born instincts but she will slay them if she must to protect people or therafim itself. She believes that some things are not met to be understood as mortals and that things become a lot clearer as a person reincarnates and finally ascends.
F: Edges and Flaws
1) What are you especially good at? What sets you apart from the rest of the world? A skill? An unusual knack? A certain flair of style or wit?
Faelia is a great markswoman with an unshakable sense of duty and honor. She feels emotions very deeply though uses iron clad control to keep them to herself and to keep them from ruling her actions, usually regarding things with a calm, level head.
2) What flaws do you have? Bad habits? Obsessions? Terrible (or embarrassing) secrets?
While she feels things very deeply, Faelia has a problem with confronting and showing her emotions which makes it very difficult for her to make friends. She often comes off as cold and uncaring even when that isn't the case. When she finally does manage to feel some sort of emotional extreme she usually resorts to violent anger at the object of her emotions, confusing other emotions for anger sometimes. Her most terrible secret is that she managed to loose control of a situation which led to her own emotional, mental and sexual abuse. It is a secret she's told no one though a very few people have already inferred it.
3) Do you have any enemies? How much trouble do those conflicts cause you?
Her worst enemy is a man by the name of Faithen Da'Rou. She is constantly haunted by nightmares and memories of the things that he did to her, even wary and un-trusting of most if not all people because of it.
G: Likes and Dislikes
1) What do you love? (People? Places? Creatures? Kinds of Food? Activities? Subjects?)
Faelia has a fondness for rabbit meat and fresh picked fruits and vegetables. She loves the forest, finding solace there and making it her home when she kind. She enjoys swimming and archery as well as studying the natural world around her and watching the animals in their natural, wild states.
2) What do you hate? How do you typically react to these hated things?
She hates undead, going out of her way to wipe them from the face of therafim whenever possible. She also hates Faithen and has made it a personal goal of hers to slay him and take her revenge thereby earning back the honor she lost when he was able to capture and abuse her.
3) What do you fear? What is your worst nightmare?
Afraid of losing control, Faelia's worst nightmare is that she will be rendered helpless. That she will not be able to rely on herself anymore and will find herself in a situation where she will forever be trapped and vulnerable as she was when Faithen managed to capture her. Another one of her worst nightmares is that Faithen Da'Rou will return for her one day only to hold her captive as his 'pet' once more.
1) Describe your first encounter with a nonhuman monster. (Not counting player races, animals, etc that you grew up with, but feel free to mention them too)
Her first encounter with a nonhuman monster was when she was but the equivalent of a fifteen year old. She and her childhood friend Kytus had been on their first patrol together and had encountered a patrol of goblins mindlessly slaying animals in the forest and desecrating their carcasses. Rage at their insolence to nature and Matra's creatures swept over her and she and Kytus slew the creatures. Her opinions of them have been low ever since.
2) If you are a spellcaster, describe your first experience with using magic. What were the circumstances? Were you expecting it?
Faelia is not a spellcaster.
3) If you have an animal companion or familiar, describe how you acquired it. Describe this ally's personality, and its attitude towards you. (Loyal unto death, mischievous, lazy, etc)
As of yet Faelia does not have an animal companion.
4) If you have any unusual possessions, describe how you acquired them. Is their value practical, monetary, sentimental or some combination of these?
Faelia has in her possession a masterwork composite longbow of great value to her. The weapon's name is Alondrelle, a mighty bow that has been passed down to the females in the Shanondel family for several generations. It is a gleaming, silvery bow that looks as if it was carved with ivy leaves coiling around it's smooth, curved surface and Sylvan runes delicately carved into the metal that glow a faint green hue. The bow is very sentimental to her, a gift of honor and a reminder of her duty not just to Matra and the world of therafim but to her family as well.
F: Background
Faelia was born deep in the Northwood in a hidden elven village by the name of Irithyll to parents Syrielle Shanondel and her husband Kelthiir Aundriste. By family tradition and because she was the first born daughter of the Shanondel line, she was destined to inherit the mighty bow Alondrelle and become an archer of great skill. She was trained in the ways of honor and Matra since the time she could stand, learning how to hold and shoot a bow as soon as her hands could grip one. Syrielle took great pride in her daughter and as a defender of Irithyll taught her daughter to do the same. Throughout her training and time growing up she'd befriended a young elven boy by the name of Kytus, a crusader among their people who lived in harmony with the wilds of the Northwood. The two quickly became inseparable, even being placed on patrol missions once they were old enough. When an elven scout from the village returned from the capital city of Avalon with dire news of cult stirrings and undead, the village council dispatched Kytus and Faelia, the most promised warrior and bow woman in the village, to Avalon to assess the threat and make sure that it would not get past Avalon and invade their home.
Upon arrival Kytus and Faelia battled cultists and Kytus professed his love to the young, talented archer who at first met his affections with reluctance and even violence before allowing herself to give in to her emotions. The two were together for some months before things seemed to quiet down in Avalon and one morning when Faelia awoke, Kytus was gone. He'd left only a letter explaining how his feelings for her had ebbed and he'd returned back to their village where he still had family, leaving her alone. Instead of packing up her things and returning to her village alone, she opted to stay near Avalon. To defend it's people since she was so sure that this was only the calm before the storm. Her heart was broken, however; Kytus had been her first and only love and her childhood friendship had been shattered after pursuing a romantic relationship. She swallowed the sadness and threw herself more ardently into her duty, taking to the outskirts of town and the forest itself in an attempt to keep at bay the remaining feelings and emotions she had from the woeful ordeal. That was when He found her.
Faithen had happened across the young elven woman among the trees of the forest and upon introducing himself to her, had decided that he must have her. He deigned to make her one of his 'pets', holding her against her will and overpowering her. He forced sexual attentions on her, forced her body to enjoy it and then threw it back in her face, telling her how awful she was, how shameful that she'd enjoyed it. She fought to escape him and he only found it more amusing, tightening his hold on her and chiding her for not being able to free herself, for being helpless. He took Alondrelle from her, used it to force her into his room upon fear of him breaking the family heirloom, chaining her to the wall in the room that looked like a torture dungeon. There he kept her for two months, feeding her in a dish like a dog, treating her like an animal for his own entertainment while she drowned in humiliation and dishonor. The day that Faithen decided to unbind her, to try and break her will once and for all, was the day she found her escape.
He said he would try to break her and that if he failed to do so, then he would show her his world, would show her how he'd become the heartless, souless monster that he was. He'd grabbed her by the throat and lifted her from the floor, pulling one of her shoulders from it's socket while she struggled against him desperately. She was terrified that he would finally manage to break her, either through the torture itself or showing her what had happened to make him a monster. She managed to jam her thumb into one of his eye sockets, causing him to drop her. She snatched her bow and rain, happening across a group of people in the tavern in the process. She was healed by a half fairy cleric who begged to know what had taken place, but Faelia would say nothing. Only stating her hatred for Faithen, that she would someday have her revenge for what he'd done.
Now she lives on near Avalon, making her home in the forest and clinging to her sense of duty and revenge which are now all she has left to keep her from taking her own life. Burying her emotions deep and throwing herself into battles to defend people who really don't know anything about her with little regard for herself anymore, unable to reassemble the shattered pieces of herself and burning to pierce Faithen's heart with one of Alondrelle's mighty arrows.
