First Flight

The First Flight

The gold half-dragon boy stood atop one of the largest spires within the Ark. The height was almost dizzying, and despite knowing that even if he failed, even if he went plummeting down, he could still ensure that he was safe, it couldn’t stop his heart from beating quickly in his chest.

He stared out into the vast expanse of beautiful stone, luscious dark green plant life, flowing indoor rivers carved into the granite. He took a deep breath, extending his wings wide, letting instinct take over… and leaped off the side. His heart raced as he dove downward, adjusting his body and his long wings, trying to avoid splattering on the ground. Flexing his back and spine, his wings moved up, absorbing the current and allowing him to pull up…

And then, he was gliding. The rush of the air across his scales, the feeling of swimming through the sky. Any kind of worry he had dispelled in a single instant as he flapped his wings, the beautiful sight of the Ark below him all the more breathtaking as he saw it without standing on solid ground, only witnessing everything from his own physical abilities. It was exhilarating.

He flew for what felt like hours, but before long he was getting sore and tired, and having a harder time with every thrust of his wings, so he glided down, landing messily in the grass in the manor yard. He picked himself up from the grass, shaking his head- well, first flight wasn’t that bad, first landing could use some work.
