No. Clutch of Orcus appears in both BoVD (3.0) and Spell Compendium (3.5). [It also appears in Libris Mortis as well] In all cases Clutch of Orcus functions much like hold person, except that it inflicts damage. Stop Heart only appears in BoVD and is like nothing else.
On a side note, there are quite a few heart spells
- Stop Heart (What it says on the tin)
- Heart Clutch (Removes Heart)
- Heart Ripper (Removes Heart, limited by caster lvl; appeared first in CArc SPC changed it a touch and added Death Descriptor)
- Clutch of Orcus (Basically enhanced Hold Person; removes hear upon death)
Clutch of Orcus is an adaptation (like many of the spells in BoVD) of a spell from the Call of Cthulhu RPG, Clutch of Nyogtha. Spells with names of Great Old Ones or Elder Gods were changed for DnD; whereas other spells like Shriveling, Consume Likeness, Eyes of The Zombie, and Curse of The Putrid Husk kept their names.
