Masau'u is the god of the night and darkness, a monstrous bat who is said to have originally placed the curse of vampirism upon Therafim. He takes the form of either a gigantic bat of pure darkness with fiercely-glowing red eyes (which become utterly useless when he is subjected to sunlight), or else a humanoid batlike form, heavy black robes making it hard to see his batlike features.
Dogma
Though Masau'u is an evil deity, he is not malicious. Instead, Masau'u considers himself to be the enforcer of the gods, enacting their will regardless of the morality of the acts he is called upon to do. His bringing the curse of vampirism to Therafim was only him following orders, cursing mortals for terrible crimes committed in a way that only he could bring about. His watchword is secrecy, and all acts committed in his name must be performed under cover of darkness. Assassins who follow the teachings of Masau'u stay bought, abiding by a personal code of ethical assassin's conduct that requires them to swear on their own blood to be trustworthy to their employers, at least for as long as a contract lasts. This same code of conduct, however, requires that Masau'u's worshippers form no permanent ties to any organization, for there is much need for workers of death in darkness, and it would be wrong to limit such power to only a select few. As a side matter, Masau'u is also the patron of elopement and other illicit romantic actions taken by night, and such lovers are considered sacred, and thus off-limits to assassinations by his faithful worshippers, at least as long as it is convenient to avoid such killings.
Clergy and Temples
Having such a tight focus, Masau'u does not have temples. However, the bat god is known to honor schools devoted to training assassins as the closest that he comes to accepting temples in his name, and most worshippers of Masau'u have a small, portable shrine somewhere in their possessions. Most of Masau'u's clergy are assassins as well (not necessarily the prestige class), and many are experts at playing the role of clerics of other religions, all the better to get close to unsuspecting marks.
