Force Of Personality:
Prerequisite: Cha 13.
Benefit: You add your Charisma modifier (instead of your Wisdom modifier) to Will saves against mind-affecting spells and abilities.
Class Abilities:
A bard may make a special bardic knowledge check with a bonus equal to his bard level + his Intelligence modifier to see whether he knows some relevant information about local notable people, legendary items, or noteworthy places. (If the bard has 5 or more ranks in Knowledge (history), he gains a +2 bonus on this check.)
A successful bardic knowledge check will not reveal the powers of a magic item but may give a hint as to its general function. A bard may not take 10 or take 20 on this check; this sort of knowledge is essentially random.
DC Type of Knowledge
10 Common, known by at least a substantial minority of the local population.
20 Uncommon but available, known by only a few people legends.
25 Obscure, known by few, hard to come by.
30 Extremely obscure, known by very few, possibly forgotten by most who once knew it, possibly known only by those who don’t understand the significance of the knowledge.
Bardic Music:
Once per day per bard level, a bard can use his song or poetics to produce magical effects on those around him (usually including himself, if desired). While these abilities fall under the category of bardic music and the descriptions discuss singing or playing instruments, they can all be activated by reciting poetry, chanting, singing lyrical songs, singing melodies, whistling, playing an instrument, or playing an instrument in combination with some spoken performance. Each ability requires both a minimum bard level and a minimum number of ranks in the Perform skill to qualify; if a bard does not have the required number of ranks in at least one Perform skill, he does not gain the bardic music ability until he acquires the needed ranks.
Starting a bardic music effect is a standard action. Some bardic music abilities require concentration, which means the bard must take a standard action each round to maintain the ability. Even while using bardic music that doesn’t require concentration, a bard cannot cast spells, activate magic items by spell completion (such as scrolls), spell trigger (such as wands), or command word. Just as for casting a spell with a verbal component, a deaf bard has a 20% chance to fail when attempting to use bardic music. If he fails, the attempt still counts against his daily limit.
Countersong (Su):
A bard with 3 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use his music or poetics to counter magical effects that depend on sound (but not spells that simply have verbal components). Each round of the countersong, he makes a Perform check. Any creature within 30 feet of the bard (including the bard himself) that is affected by a sonic or language-dependent magical attack may use the bard’s Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform check result proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the countersong is already under the effect of a noninstantaneous sonic or language-dependent magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it hears the countersong, but it must use the bard’s Perform check result for the save. Countersong has no effect against effects that don’t allow saves. The bard may keep up the countersong for 10 rounds.
Fascinate (Sp):
A bard with 3 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use his music or poetics to cause one or more creatures to become fascinated with him. Each creature to be fascinated must be within 90 feet, able to see and hear the bard, and able to pay attention to him. The bard must also be able to see the creature. The distraction of a nearby combat or other dangers prevents the ability from working. For every three levels a bard attains beyond 1st, he can target one additional creature with a single use of this ability.
To use the ability, a bard makes a Perform check. His check result is the DC for each affected creature’s Will save against the effect. If a creature’s saving throw succeeds, the bard cannot attempt to fascinate that creature again for 24 hours. If its saving throw fails, the creature sits quietly and listens to the song, taking no other actions, for as long as the bard continues to play and concentrate (up to a maximum of 1 round per bard level). While fascinated, a target takes a -4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Listen and Spot checks. Any potential threat requires the bard to make another Perform check and allows the creature a new saving throw against a DC equal to the new Perform check result.
Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect. Fascinate is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability.
Inspire Courage (Su):
Duration: As long as she sings and 5 rounds thereafter
Effect: +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear, +1 morale bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls
A bard with 3 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use song or poetics to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to hear the bard sing. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability.

A: Appearance
1) Describe yourself as someone meeting you for the first time would see you. (Race?, Gender?, Age?, Size? Coloration? Attractiveness?, Dress? Do you try to emphasize or hide any of these features?)
Well I’m four foot nine, sixteen years old, an aasimar, um… soft peach colored skin. I’m told I’m really pretty and I wear a really cool shift weave outfit that has 6 dresses in it but my favorite it the fairy cut sky blue dress that reaches mid thigh that I wear during the summer and a green long sleeve dress that reaches my ankles that I wear when it is cold. I have blonde hair that goes to just under my bottom, blue eyes and I have little wings that look a little blue in the light and flower hair clips in my hair with ribbons that go down the sides of my face! Oh and I have lace up sandals I wear all the time and studded armor for when I go on adventures!
2) What other details would someone notice on a closer look? (Distinguishing marks, birthmarks, scars, etc?)
Um… Well I have a yellow star tattoo on my forehead that is hidden under bangs sometimes and it can be hard to see my wings at times because of my hair. I also have a small scar on the inside of my ankles but it’s really small so not many people would notice that at all. I also have a birth mark that is on my right bottom cheek and it kinda looks like a really squiggly star shape.
3) Do you have a distinctive way of speaking or any other mannerisms or memorable behavior?
Oh! Let’s see… I’ve been told I’m really spacey and I don’t know better and that I tend to ramble on a lot and tell too much information for an answer all the time. I also tend to flail a lot, you know like waving my arms around a lot and I carry around plushies I make to look like my friends! I’ve been carrying around my Eveie plushie and Conall plushie the most though. Seren too!
B: Birth and Family
1) Where and when were you born? (Also good to include: Do you know your exact birthdate? Did anything unusual (storms, accidents, deaths, etc?) happen about the same time, with which some people might still associate your birthdate?)
I was born in a really big forest! But I do remember we lived close to the Sweet River. It is really pretty! I was born on the 22nd day of Fala but I don’t think anything important happened. (*Note: She lived on the outskirts of Freeholds.)
2) Who are your parents? (Names, Occupations, Social class, Were they married?, Are they still alive? are all good things to include)
My Mama’s name is Taiki and my Papa’s name is Kuronai. Mama’s job when I was growing up was taking care of me, I was enough of a handful for her not wanting to do much else but after I became an adult she ended up becoming an elder. My Papa worked a lot… um… but I forgot what he did… Mama didn’t talk about him a lot. They aren’t together anymore, Papa never came home after one day he went off to work. (*Note: Kuronai died while protecting the village from an Orc attack. But Miro was never told.*)
3) Do you have any siblings? (If so, it would be good to describe them as you did your parents above.)
Oh nope! I am an only child, Mama told me that I gave her enough worry to last her a life time and that she had too many duties to attend to be able to have another baby.
4) Do you know any members of your extended family? (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins? Also would be good to describe them as above)
I got to meet my Grand Mama a few times but then she ended up going away too. It seemed like a lot of people ended up leaving when I was little. Grand Mama went away when I was six years old, her name was Miroshiro, which is where Mama got my name from Miro! Grand Papa he went away when I was eight and his name was Servios. He was really nice too and really funny! I had um… have five cousins too but I only got to meet 3 of them. Two went away when they were really little Mama said they got really not well and had to leave their bodies to get better. Then there was Taki who was my Mama’s sister’s daughter but I never got to meet Mama’s sister… but Taki was really nice! Kuro was born after Papa had gone missing and I got to meet him once when he was six, I found out he was named after Papa. He was really energetic! And then there was Alia and she was the daughter of Papa’s brother’s lady person. She was really quiet and hid a lot.
5) How did you get along with your family?
I get along with them good! Even though I don’t get to see too many of them very often… but I never had a problem with any of them before.
C: Education and Work
1) Did you serve an apprenticeship in order to learn your current profession/class? For how long?
Apprenticeship? Nope! I didn’t train under a teacher teacher.
2) If you were not an apprentice, how did you learn your trade/skills/ect? Formal schooling? Informal Teachers? Self-Taught?
I didn’t go to school after I was five but I did get to learn a few things like reading. Mama was the one who taught me that it is good to listen and try to work out problems. When I started to like to hum and sing Mama started to teach me how I could do more with it and when I had some talent with it she was really happy that I wasn’t good at something bad.
3) Who was your master or teacher? (Race? Gender? Appearance? Personality?) Is he/she still alive? How were you treated? Are/Were you on good terms with your master?
Um well my Mama was my teacher I guess you could say but I did try to do a lot on my own when I wasn’t allowed to cook or do much of anything that would really hurt me…
4) Did your teacher have any other apprentices or students? Who were they? Did you get along?
Nope! Mama just taught me. At least I think I was the only one she was teaching. She would go other places sometimes.
5) Due to the rarity of literacy in this setting, how important are books, writings, letters, ect. to your character? Regardless as to whether or not he/she can read?
I like reading! Even though it was mainly music books growing up I didn’t mind. I really liked how written words could make pictures in my head and make music that can be played. I didn’t know there were others who didn’t know how to read…
6) Do you have a job other than "adventurer"? Who do you work for? How much of your time does this require?
Yep! I’m Conall’s guardian angel! I still need to get a little better at my songs and all but I take care of him and make sure he heals up good if he comes home hurt from an adventure. I spend most of my free time with him.
D: Friends
1) Who were your friends as a child? As an adolescent? As an adult?
Taki was my really good friend when I was a child. But when I ended up being kept inside by Mama I ended up not being able to spend much time with Taki so I didn’t really have any friends until I moved to Avalon to be on my own. As an adult Eveie is my really good bestest friend and I also have Seren, Conall, Ariel, Belle, Liadan, Roka, Galen, Satin, and Miyako. I like making friends!
2) How many of these people are still alive? How many are you still friends with?
All of them are still alive and I’m friends with all of them still!
3) Who is/was your best friend? What is the most memorable thing that the two of you ever did together?
Well my bestest friend is Eveie like I said and I remember when I used to help her sleep by staying up really late and humming her lullabies my Mama used to sing to me to help me sleep.
4) What do you look for in a friend?
I look for nice people to be my friends and not someone who is going to be mean or turn around and hurt one of my other friends! I don’t like fighting unless I really have to…
5) Have you ever been in love? Was it reciprocated? Do you have (or have you had) a boy-/girlfriend, a lover, or a spouse? More than one? Are you looking for one? What do you look for in a romantic partner?
Eh? Love? Um… I’m not sure… I spent a lot of time with Conall and I’m learning a lot from him… ah… and he had me become his guardian… but I don’t know all the questions you’re asking! They are really confusing! (*Note: Yes Miro is emotionally involved with Conall, he can be considered her boy friend. No she isn’t into multiple relationships, not looking for anyone and she doesn’t know what it all is about thus no idea what to look for.*)
E: Attitudes and Beliefs
1) What are your beliefs about religion and the afterlife? Do you follow any particular god or gods? What appeals to you most about this religion? Least?
I don’t really know… Mama didn’t really want me to learn a lot about that kind of stuff… It wasn’t really talked about a whole lot so I don’t follow anyone and I wouldn’t really know what to talk about it…
2) Where do spirits of nature, the elements and the dead fit into these beliefs?
Again… I’m not really sure how I should answer… I mean… I just recently learned that things can die… It’s very sad…
3) What gods, religions, or priesthoods will you have nothing to do with?
Um… I guess if there are bad ones I wouldn’t want to know about them. I’m pretty sure there is probably bad ones…
4) What is your moral code? Under what conditions will you kill? Steal? Lie? Do you have a personal code of behavior about violence? Magic? Sex? Dealing with Evil Beings?
Eh? Um… I don’t like killing! I-It isn’t something… something I would do unless I had to protect Conall… or if it meant my health too. I wouldn’t steal from nice people that is really mean and wrong but if I had to steal from a bad person to give it back to a good person I would definitely do that! I don’t like lying, I know some do small ones but I like to be honest because I think that is really important. Um… I don’t like violence. I try to make it stop when I can… unless it’s against really bad guys then I guess I wouldn’t. Magic… magic I don’t mind as long as it used for good because then it helps people! Sex… ah… *blushes* I’m still learning about it so I can say that it’s nice… and about evil beings… well evil is really bad so they shouldn’t be allowed to get away with bad stuff!
5) How committed are you to seeing through something (a task, quest, bargain, etc) that you have started?
Well I have finished a lot of plushies I made of my friends and I stayed for the entire adventure I went on with Conall so I guess when I put my mind to it I can finish what I started!
6) How important are the following to you?: Power, Wealth, Fame, Honor, Family, Friends, Love, Knowledge, Religion, Your job? To what lengths would you go to acquire or preserve these things?
Wow… lots of different ones… um power I guess would be a little important if you want to be able to protect others you care about, wealth well I don’t really think it is too important, once I get a couple of things I need I will probably start saving to help out those who need it. Fame I’m not really interested in, I don’t need to be well known but Honor I think is important. Of course family and friends are very important to me and I think love is too… Knowledge is really important but I don’t think that Religion is a definite must and my job is very important to me. Um… I wouldn’t really try hard for power, wealth, fame, honor, or religion but I definitely would work really, really hard to make sure family, friends, love, and my job stayed okay!
7) How often do you remember your dreams? How much attention do you pay to them? Do they inspire you? Guide you? Inspire You? Warn you? Frighten You?
Well I don’t dream a whole lot… um… I guess I mean I don’t really remember them a lot. I don’t really think that they are for leading me anywhere… that just seems a little silly. But nightmares can be scary! But they aren’t real so it’s okay.
8) What is your attitude towards magic? People who use it? Fearsome monsters? The unknown in general?
As long as it is used for good I don’t see anything wrong with it. So if the person is good that is great! If they are bad well… that’s bad! I haven’t gotten to really see monsters a lot but that sounds scary! The unknown… um well I don’t like being scared over something like that… that just seems a like a waste of time really…
F: Edges and Flaws
1) What are you especially good at? What sets you apart from the rest of the world? A skill? An unusual knack? A certain flair of style or wit?
I’m really good at making plushies! And I’m teaching myself how to sew clothes so I don’t have to go and buy new ones a lot. Um… I guess just how I am? I haven’t seen someone else quite like me even though I do sometimes make others a little upset with how I don’t understand a lot of things.
2) What flaws do you have? Bad habits? Obsessions? Terrible (or embarrassing) secrets?
Well um… I’m not able to fly even though I have wings… I guess not asking before making a plushie of someone could be a bad habit… but I don’t think spending a lot of time with Conall is an obsession… and a secret? Ah… lots of mean guys in one room frightens me… *tucks her wings in*
3) Do you have any enemies? How much trouble do those conflicts cause you?
I think that Sihak is an enemy now… since I called him a doggy person… he’s scary… I just don’t understand how others can be around him and not know that he is very, very bad! It made me learn of a word that I really don’t like and I’m scared to be around him by myself.
G: Likes and Dislikes
1) What do you love? (People? Places? Creatures? Kinds of Food? Activities? Subjects?)
Let’s see… I wouldn’t really say love but I really like Conall and Eveie and Seren! I really like the park and the shoreline… um… I like all kinds of food and I like sewing and spending time with Conall and I like learning about music!
2) What do you hate? How do you typically react to these hated things?
I don’t think I can hate anything… that is a really strong bad mean word. I don’t like mean people though and evil people and really icky smells. But I really wouldn’t know exactly what to do with them really…
3) What do you fear? What is your worst nightmare?
Er… I fear being all cooped up again like I was when Mama was taking care of me… and mean people… um… my worst nightmare… *shivers* that would be people trying to rip out my wings…
H: Miscellaneous
1) Describe your first encounter with a nonhuman monster. (Not counting player races, animals, etc that you grew up with, but feel free to mention them too)
I got to face gnolls! Those were scary! But I’m not sure if they would be considered nonhuman… they certainly were not nice. They made hyenas attack us!
2) If you are a spellcaster, describe your first experience with using magic. What were the circumstances? Were you expecting it?
I guess what I do could be considered that… um… well the first time that I learned that I could help others by using my music to strengthen others I worked really hard at it until I got it to work and it was on my Mama and I don’t think she quite knew what to make of it… I thought there was going to be more then what happened but I at least knew it worked so I was very happy.
3) If you have an animal companion or familiar, describe how you acquired it. Describe this ally's personality, and its attitude towards you. (Loyal unto death, mischievous, lazy, etc)
I don’t have an animal companion… it makes me a little sad but that’s okay.

Unusual possessions? Nope! I don’t have anything like that.

Miro grew up with other children of the village, always having been the sweet naïve one of the bunch. But she showed great promise that usually made many of the children a bit jealous, especially with how she was treated differently due to her gift of her wings. She was just learning how to learn to fly when the incident happened, a group of boys deciding they had enough of the ditzy little girl that all the adults seemed to really like and cornered her one day, tormenting the poor girl and tearing out all her flight feathers, and even tried to tear her wings off completely, stunting their growth in her later years. This incident left the boys in quite a bit of trouble and the poor aasimar rather scared by the mean names they called her and the fact she no longer could fly. This lead to her mother sheltering her and wanting to do all she could to protect her daughter, still lost in grief over the death of her husband she didn’t want to risk the loss of her daughter too and thus tried to hide her from the world and the evils in it. This had worked well and helped Miro grow in a some ways but in others she was still very much a child and when it came time for Miro to be an adult and to go venture forth into the world her mother realized how little she told her about what she could face and since the day she left she has prayed for her safety.
