Moon Elf

The guardians of elvenkind from almost the earliest point of elven history, moon elves are beings of the deep forests, away from the prying eyes of other races, and often other elves. Where wood elves often extend the hand of friendship to others, moon elves are utterly devoted to their task, and care little for the petty concerns of sociality.

Personality
Devoted to their duties as defenders of the woodland homes of the elves, and personal guardians of the most sacred sites and individuals of the elven people, moon elves are very lawful in nature. Most are also good, though many lose sight of the overall reason for their actions, and lapse into neutrality, focusing almost entirely upon their duties without considering anything else. In social situations, moon elves tend to be tight-lipped, and find themselves out of their element and feeling vulnerable. Because of this, moon elves generally prefer to keep focused on things that are more familiar, such as training and patrols and the other many activities that keep them in preparation to fulfill their duties at a moment's notice. It is very rare that moon elves unwind themselves, usually at the instigation of those who know and care about them, and do not want them to snap or wear out like overtight bowstrings. When they do relax, however, moon elves tend to be sweet, shy, and rather vulnerable.

Physical Description
Though they are shorter than humans, around 5'6" on average, moon elves are much more muscular than other elves, with bodies that are lithe and agile, but also quite sturdy in construction, giving them bodies that are almost at the dimensions of a fit but slender human, rather than the willowy slenderness of most elves. This muscle is generally meant for fast bursts of action, like that of jungle cats, and so moon elves have a similar lack of constitution as common to other elves. The skins of moon elves are various shades of purple or, sometimes, green, and their hair has similar coloration, though these colors tend to darken in dim light, allowing moon elves to better blend into their surroundings. Moon elf eyes are a glowing green or violet in dim light, though they are a more ordinary-looking shade of violet, blue, green, or gold in normal lighting.

About Moon Elves
Moon elves keep to the darkest parts of the forest, hunting the evil things that make their homes there, and are constantly on the move, save for brief stopovers at wood elven tree homes when they have need of refreshment or healing. This subrace of elves also make up some of the high elven royalty's most trusted and adept personal guard, using their skills in stealth to keep out of sight while nevertheless maintaining a silent, never-ceasing vigil over their assigned charges. The lives of moon elves are usually solitary by nature, and they seldom meet with others not of their kind for any form of sociality, so devoted are the moon elves to their duties as guardians of the elven people.

Exceptions to this rule are few and far between, but they are known to happen. Elven diplomats to other places often have a few moon elven bodyguards to accompany them, and sometimes these moon elves are left behind to maintain a presence in the lands that were visited even when the diplomats return home. Very often these free agent moon elves are forced to blend in as best as they can. Other moon elves, usually the younger members of the race, are sometimes deliberately assigned to study the ways of other races and to travel so as to gain access to more ways by which they might serve. These tactics are often deliberate attempts on the part of elven royalty and nobility to cause the moon elves to be slightly less insular, so as to ensure that they do not become too chronically paranoid as a race, or lose the tenuous balance that is necessary for them to continue to be useful to the elven people.
