A: Appearance
1) Describe yourself as someone meeting you for the first time would see you. (Race?, Gender?, Age?, Size? Coloration? Attractiveness?, Dress? Do you try to emphasize or hide any of these features?)
Neysa is a small but graciously curved Ovida woman of about 18-20 years with golden and cream wool, golden-tan woolly, almost fluffy hair kept short around slightly floppy pointed ears. Large somehow soft and sweet red eyes fit into a rounded, soft face complete with rounded muzzle and framed by horns that curl back from her crown and end up pointing up next to her almost chubby cheeks. Dressed on average in the guise of an adventurer her 4'11 frame is padded with a layer of light leather armor under a light wool blouse and vest with many little pockets. Trousers are held up at her ample hips with a belt similarly decorated with many little places to store things though it doesn't have a mount for a weapon, not does she typically seem to be carrying one. The trousers are tied up around her ankles, keeping them out of the way of almost delicate little hooves. The only apparently decorative item the young woman wears is a comfortably fitting leather choker ( not a collar though it may look like one ) with a golden bell at its front.
2) What other details would someone notice on a closer look? (Distinguishing marks, birthmarks, scars, etc?)
Neysa is overall memorable mostly due to race and odd coloration, she has no obvious scars or birthmarks, no tattoos either.
3) Do you have a distinctive way of speaking or any other mannerisms or memorable behavior?
Neysa speaks with a faint northernish accent (Not quite so far as Rimevast, somewhere near the north woods) and usually in a very prim and proper way, quick to be polite and kind.
B: Birth and Family
1) Where and when were you born? (Also good to include: Do you know your exact birthdate? Did anything unusual (storms, accidents, deaths, etc?) happen about the same time, with which some people might still associate your birthdate?)
Neysa was born in late summer, 18 years before her appearance in Avalon, though the exact date was not marked down nor was it particularly portentous, though she was born during the Wolf moon, perhaps some of which rubbed off on her, marking her with her unusual brand of shape shifting.
2) Who are your parents? (Names, Occupations, Social class, Were they married?, Are they still alive? are all good things to include)
Mother: Ayelen is a physically unimposing druid, perhaps 5'2 and cream in coloration with blue eyes and a kind disposition. Within her community she is a renown healer with both magic and nature's gifts of herbs and such. She still lives in the grove of the Northernmost Woods, where this great forest borders the Kudurru mountain range.
Father: Terah stands a more respectably 5'11 and possesses dark charcoal grey wool, spotted with lighter grays and white. One of the rangers that protect the community of Ovida living in what might otherwise be called Wolf country he's lean and fit despite advancing age and the problems that come with it.
3) Do you have any siblings? (If so, it would be good to describe them as you did your parents above.)
Siblings: Due to a slightly relaxed code on breeding and the interlaced community every child of her generation is her sibling, be it by blood or just bond. As such she would say she has many sisters and brothers, some might actually be her parent's children.
4) Do you know any members of your extended family? (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins? Also would be good to describe them as above)
Her grand parents have both succumbed to age and the harsh winters just south of Rimevast, but as with siblings there are many elders to which she can turn, and many aunts and uncles to share the load of family.
5) How did you get along with your family?
Splendidly. Neysa is only out among the outsiders due to tradition, She is perfectly welcome to return home whenever she chooses to, when she has seen enough of the world, and perfectly welcomed to be a wanderer, only stopping by to visit. She loves her family and it is a mutual situation.
C: Education and Work
1) Did you serve an apprenticeship in order to learn your current profession/class? For how long?
No apprenticeship as such.
2) If you were not an apprentice, how did you learn your trade/skills/ect? Formal schooling? Informal Teachers? Self-Taught?
Neysa was taught by her mother about the paths of druidism from a young age. The path of a druid is commonly a woman's roll in Neysa's village and children learn at the side of parents.
3) Who was your master or teacher? (Race? Gender? Appearance? Personality?) Is he/she still alive? How were you treated? Are/Were you on good terms with your master?
Her mother.
4) Did your teacher have any other apprentices or students? Who were they? Did you get along?
Since Ayelen has no other daughters ( though she does have one son ) Neysa had her undivided attention growing up.
5) Due to the rarity of literacy in this setting, how important are books, writings, letters, ect. to your character? Regardless as to whether or not he/she can read?
Books slightly confuse Neysa, who cannot read.. she understands they hold value to others but to her they take up space.
6) Do you have a job other than "adventurer"? Who do you work for? How much of your time does this require?
Neysa is often found volunteering her time to the less fortunate ( orphanages have benefited from many a pair of slightly golden woolly socks and pots of salves meant to aid the healing of common childhood illnesses, such as pox.) She supports herself mostly through adventuring but does occasionally help the police force of Avalon ( Church in particular due to intimate friendship) with tracking folk that have strayed into the woods beyond the safety of the walls
D: Friends
1) Who were your friends as a child? As an adolescent? As an adult?
Friendly and perspicacious Neysa is rather difficult NOT to be friends with, as such she had many friends at home and still manages to charm those she meets with her soft spoken kind hearted attitude and the lack of ego required to grab a shovel and get things done, if that's whats required.
She had a rather special friend growing up, though she and Una have since grown apart a bit due to age gaps, Una returned to the village from her walk around shortly before Neysa left and has since settled down to raise her family in the village from which they both hailed. They are still on good terms but no longer the inseparable friends they once were.
In the more modern time she has made friends with Church ( gid's) the police hound, and dozens of others.
2) How many of these people are still alive? How many are you still friends with?
Most of them, probably.
3) Who is/was your best friend? What is the most memorable thing that the two of you ever did together?
Her best friend ever would have to have been Una, a sheepling about three years Neysa senior and subject of just a bit of hero worship from the sweet natured sheep. Una managed to bring out the slight trickster side of Neysa's personality and the two were as near troublemakers as the polite grove ever got. They didn't particularly misbehave but did silly things akin to childish pranks on other children and the rare adult.
4) What do you look for in a friend?
Dependability and a quick wit, mostly, Overly lawful or chaotic tend to upset her innate neutrality but she understands and is willing to look past traits that must be to keep the cosmic balance.
5) Have you ever been in love? Was it reciprocated? Do you have (or have you had) a boy-/girlfriend, a lover, or a spouse? More than one? Are you looking for one? What do you look for in a romantic partner?
in "Love" in the romantic flowers and candles way, not really, she has had crushes on people but nothing more than idle adolescent like. Neysa has her share of lovers, though none are serious.
E: Attitudes and Beliefs
1) What are your beliefs about religion and the afterlife? Do you follow any particular god or gods? What appeals to you most about this religion? Least?
Not a follower of religion Neysa believes that when one dies their spirit or essence returns to the earth, where it is sheltered as a mother would a child and eventually sent back out to experience life again. Religion's general ' believe this or don't be here' aspect irritates teh free spirit in Neysa, who likes to be able to make up her own mind and question things.
2) Where do spirits of nature, the elements and the dead fit into these beliefs?
Spirits of nature are the will of the great mother, the earth that sustains all life, Elemental are similarly seen with respect though if they attack Neysa is willing to move them to the next phase of creation just a little quicker. Death is a natural part of life UNDEATH however is a perversion of the natural order and should be destroyed and purified with salt and fire.
3) What gods, religions, or priesthoods will you have nothing to do with?
Zealots of the evil type are a no-no, but Zealots of the light are just about as intolerable.. Neysa is kind and sweet but she will not pervert the natural order to save a life, where most overly good healing gods preach life above all.
4) What is your moral code? Under what conditions will you kill? Steal? Lie? Do you have a personal code of behavior about violence? Magic? Sex? Dealing with Evil Beings?
Neysa's moral code is one of balance. Everything should be in balance and as such there is no reason to throw stones at anyone for what they believe, even if they might be wrong.
Ultimately practical, Neysa will kill to defend herself, her home family and friends, but she will also let noncombatants ( surrendered foes included) leave rather than killing them. Stealing and lying are to much work and in the end only breed discord, she seeks honesty in all relations and wants for very little, seeing no need to steal.
Violence has its place in the balance of nature, as does sex and magic. Magic is such a part of Neysa that it is generally trusted in others, as it itself isn't a force of corruption or chaos, its the wielders of the power that shape and color it. Evil beings are evil beings, as long as they aren't being overly dickish in front of Neysa she'll leave them be.. If they are doing something inexcusable.. well they are welcome to move along to the next phase of creation just that much faster.
5) How committed are you to seeing through something (a task, quest, bargain, etc) that you have started?
Once a task is started Neysa will generally attempt everything in her power to complete it, unless something more pressing and urgent comes up.
6) How important are the following to you?: Power, Wealth, Fame, Honor, Family, Friends, Love, Knowledge, Religion, Your job? To what lengths would you go to acquire or preserve these things?
Power: not really, Power is power.
Wealth: Wealth is a measure of how much you can assist yourself and others, Its mildly important only in that more wealth = more stuff that can be done for the community.
Fame: not at all, Neysa's a bit shy, fame would really kinda bother her
Honor: Her personal honor is of fair significance to her, though she would not claim dishonor for mistakes people who continually act against what she considers honorable will likely get told off ( like a certain sphinx)
Family: There is nothing more important to Neysa than family. There is nothing she would not do to preserve home and family. The idea of other families torn apart also eats at her, making her more sympathetic to the little girl lost.
Friends: Similar to family the health of her friends is of paramount importance to Neysa. There is very very little Neysa would not do to protect those she thinks of as friends.
Love: Love slots into family for Neysa, who if she loves someone considers that person family.
Knowledge: While knowledge of nature and her mysteries interest Neysa and she would pursue it to a point it isn't a driving force in her existence.
Religion: Not important at all.
Job: her word is important, and to take a job is to give one's word, so her job at any time is important, but that bond is not unbreakable, the needs of the many and the needs of the vulnerable can be enough to sway her from a task.
7) How often do you remember your dreams? How much attention do you pay to them? Do they inspire you? Guide you? Inspire You? Warn you? Frighten You?
Neysa rarely remembers dreams but rarely dreams of anything frightening.. She does have a recurring one where there are bouncing bunny-rabbits that keep trying to eat her herb garden but.. its not particularly portentous or frightening.
8) What is your attitude towards magic? People who use it? Fearsome monsters? The unknown in general?
Magic itself is an element to Neysa, as accepted and respected as water, fire or wind. People who use magic shape this element to their wills, be they good or bad, walkers of balance or immersed in screaming chaos.. each caster is to be met on a case by case basis. Fearsome monsters should be avoided, if they can be reasoned with they should be.. if not they are free to move along to the next phase of creation for the good of the community. Unknown is unknown, it will get known if it needs to be.
F: Edges and Flaws
1) What are you especially good at? What sets you apart from the rest of the world? A skill? An unusual knack? A certain flair of style or wit?
Neysa's good at a few things, she's a decent herbalist, she can card and spin wool and even knit after a fashion ( it just takes her a long time). Her almost eternal optimisim and quick mind set her apart from most people.
2) What flaws do you have? Bad habits? Obsessions? Terrible (or embarrassing) secrets?
Not particularly
3) Do you have any enemies? How much trouble do those conflicts cause you?
Not particularly
G: Likes and Dislikes
1) What do you love? (People? Places? Creatures? Kinds of Food? Activities? Subjects?)
Family, helping people, home, regular sheep and other such creatures.
Neysa really like apple nut bread and fresh fruit other than bananas but is a strict vegetarian 99.9% of the time.. If in wolf form and she happens to say bite a bit off something well.. meat is wolf food and she tries not to dwell on it.
2) What do you hate? How do you typically react to these hated things?
Neysa's pretty much against the processes of making meat for the masses, she detests large scale butchers but hasn't yet progressed to eco-terrorist levels.. she tries to avoid to much exposure to meat as food.. especially lamb, that's downright disturbing. She's not fond of people clear cutting forests and large scale mining operations but hasn't yet run into a major one.
3) What do you fear? What is your worst nightmare?
Being alone.. Even when she's not with people she knows that home is only a bit of travel away, to be utterly and completely without family would terrify her.. she's also not fond of large predictors that might try to make her into dinner.
H: Miscellaneous
1) Describe your first encounter with a nonhuman monster. (Not counting player races, animals, etc that you grew up with, but feel free to mention them too)
Neysa grew up in the woods and along the hills of the the Kudurru mountains so even from an early age she ran into the goblins and wolves of the area. Her first vivid memory of wild creatures was also one of the earliest times she realized the power that made her different, even from the druids of her little village.
About eleven or so Neysa was just starting along the steps of druidism, just learning to get in touch with the magic that Nature offered to her. A free spirit Neysa and her best friend Una had slipped away from the village one afternoon near the end of winter. Tired of being trapped inside the warm village, sheltered from the elements the girls had only sought a few moments freedom, to run familiar hills and trails while they were deserted and not having to share the beauty of the sear crisp winter scenery with the others of their age range from the village as they may have during the summer months. Fate was unkind that day and the par were happened upon by winter starved Goblins, seeking any form of sustainance from dwindling food stores and before the spring thaws when hunting would again be sustaining.
Both girls of course had SEEN goblins, but from a distance and with the protection of parents and other adults to keep things from getting out of hand. Quickly the girls got into serious trouble, 11 and 14 year old lambs being no match for determined and hungry goblins. With no adults present to protect them Una stumbled on the run away and the goblins closed fast.. But the dormant shifter in Neysa stirred then. Instead of fleeing to save herself she stood between her friend and the goblins, the beast flowed through her, replacing her small fragile form with one more apt at frightening goblins. Facing a wolf, even a young one, and fearful of the magic involved the goblins decided that possibly it was a better idea to leave the pair alone.
Una never said anything but that was the moment the deep friendship between her and Neysa started to cool, Neysa's affinity for the predator frightened some, her own friend included. She's never been made to feel unwelcome, just watched a bit more closely by some.
2) If you are a spell caster, describe your first experience with using magic. What were the circumstances? Were you expecting it?
Magic has always been an unspoken element in Neysa's life, The first indications that she would walk the path of Nature's magic were very early on, before she could properly cook and clean there were hints of her mother's gift for healing magics in her. Nothing drastic until she'd reached adulthood but always a spark. Even when magic started showing itself more in the young woman, it would be hard to pin down EXACTLY when her first overt brush with magic appeared.
3) If you have an animal companion or familiar, describe how you acquired it. Describe this ally's personality, and its attitude towards you. (Loyal unto death, mischievous, lazy, etc)
4) If you have any unusual possessions, describe how you acquired them. Is their value practical, monetary, sentimental or some combination of these?
Neysa possesses only one unusual or unique item, and its of no physical value. When she reluctantly left home at 18 for her traditional time away she was gifted with a reminder of the comfort of home, in the form of a wool blanket to ease travels. Its about 7'x5' and woven in a very simple pattern. the uniqueness of it is the colors, each one is a family or friend, the widest stripe is a soft cream color brushed from her mother's coat, though a nearly as broad stripe of charcoal marked her father's contribution, to a greater or lesser extent everyone she loves at home is carried with her, at least in effigy.
5) Please describe your characters general background, this may be any length you wish, but at least one paragraph. You may use any or all of the information above, or new information not covered. (Encouraged)
Neysa is a slightly atypical druid from a village composed nearly entirely of Ovida in the great north woods on the border of the Kudurru mountain range. From a young age the respect of nature and the great balance were taught to her at her mother's knee, along with cooking, cleaning, planting and herbalism. While her village is very traditional in some ways it is also very loving, and Neysa was raised with very little drama and all the love a young woman could want. Neysa never felt different or unusual in any way, even though an event at the tender age of 11 proved to everyone she was, possessing the bestial side that allowed her to shift her body into that of a wolf Neysa embodied a slightly feared enemy of the sheep-folk. Regardless of that event, her life was little but peace and comfort until her 18th birthday when tradition dictates that young adults leave the village. The tradition is not to get rid of the younglings but to give them a taste of the world outside, a chance to see what the other plains hold and to experience all that life may hold before settling into the village for a long and hopefully peaceful existence.
Neysa's trip has carried her south, a soft yearning to see the great Autumn lands and the worlds beyond the seas brought her to Avalon, from which many great adventures start. her natural desire to help has led her to assist in many places that normal folk wouldn't. Avalon has its drawbacks, seemingly mostly populated by predators but so far no one has tried to eat her unpleasantly.
