Statistics of Items Here:
A: Appearance
1) Describe yourself as someone meeting you for the first time would see you.
Nina stands at exactly five feet of height. Her fur is silky and vibrant, orange with darker orange stripes, white forearms and hands, white feet and shins, white ear tips, white tail tip and a white belly and nose. Her form is curvaceous and lithe with incredibly long, sunflower blond hair that reaches just past her knees and bangs that fall long into large, amber colored eyes. She has a pink nose and a set of well defined, expressive pink lips. Her attire varies greatly from day to day but is usually colorful. Her armor is a form fitting, black studded leather suit that buckles up the left side of the front of her. The suit is comprised of black thigh high boots, fingerless over the elbow black gloves and a black belt. It covers the entirety of her form save the tips of her fingers, her head and her tail, even extending up her neck.
2) What other details would someone notice on a closer look? (Distinguishing marks, birthmarks, scars, etc?)
None.
3) Do you have a distinctive way of speaking or any other mannerisms or memorable behavior?
She has a slight Carnivon accent and her ears and tail are very expressive, her tail often giving away her emotions which she wears on her sleeve anyway. She saunters when she walks, very much like any regular house cat might and she enjoys being close to people. She's somewhat sarcastic but relatively friendly and very playful.
B: Birth and Family
1) Where and when were you born?
Nina was born near the edge of Pixis, in a small town by the name of Cheshire along the east coast in the late Summer
2) Who are your parents?
Mauria and Deidrick Mau were her birth parents, since their deaths she was raised by the wolfen couple Catherine (a healer) and Loren (A ranger).
3) Do you have any siblings?
Nina has no biological siblings though she was raised alongside Catherine and Loren's wolfen son Mathias.
C: Education and Work
1) Did you serve an apprenticeship in order to learn your current profession/class? For how long?
Nina didn't serve an apprenticeship but rather was taught to use a crossbow and longsword by her adoptive father Loren who trained her in the use of both for about five years. Nina's powers as a warlock began to surface when she was just seven but they were like an extension of herself and therefore she needed no training in using them, simply knowing from instinct. Her adoptive mother, Catherine, taught Nina all she knew about cooking, a skill which Nina excelled in.
2) If you were not an apprentice, how did you learn your trade/skills/ect? Formal schooling? Informal Teachers? Self-Taught?
Nina's warlock powers were self taught.
3) Who was your master or teacher? (Race? Gender? Appearance? Personality?) Is he/she still alive? How were you treated? Are/Were you on good terms with your master?
Loren, a wolfen man in his late thirties with brown fur and green eyes, taught Nina how to fight with her weapons. Using a gentle yet firm hand the wolfen guided her with a gentle disposition. Catherine, a wolfen woman in her late thirties with white fur and gray eyes, taught Nina all about cooking with her calm demeanor and intuitive wisdom. Both of these people are still alive as far as Nina knows.
4) Due to the rarity of literacy in this setting, how important are books, writings, letters, ect. to your character? Regardless as to whether or not he/she can read?
Nina loves to read. Her favorite kinds of books are fantasy and adventure books with dragons and princesses and handsome princes. She enjoys writing on occasion and tends to devour books given to her, sometimes dedicating an entire day to nothing but a warm cup of milk and a good book
D: Friends
1)Who were your friends as a child? As an adolescent? As an adult?
She didn't have many friends growing up, the small village of Havston being composed entirely of wolfen though eventually she did manage to forge a friendship and close bond with her adoptive brother Mathias.
2) Who is/was your best friend? What is the most memorable thing that the two of you ever did together?
Mathias was Nina's one and only friend and she cared for him very deeply, her most memorable moments of him were just after she'd broken her ankle and he helped nurse her back to health.
5) Have you ever been in love?
Nina fell in love with Mathias over a year ago and is still in love with the wolfen fighter.
E: Attitudes and Beliefs
1) What are your beliefs about religion and the afterlife? Do you follow any particular god or gods? What appeals to you most about this religion? Least?
Nina doesn't follow any deity specifically, believing that all of them are real. She's never given much thought to the after life, taking a 'guess we'll see what happens when it happens' stance on things. She thinks that a lot of people who have religions tend to be 'stuffy' about them.
2) Where do spirits of nature, the elements and the dead fit into these beliefs?
She like undead. Mostly because they're dead and they smell bad. As for spirits of nature? She hopes to meet one some day, if only for curiosities sake but knows nothing about them.
4) What is your moral code? Under what conditions will you kill? Steal? Lie? Do you have a personal code of behavior about violence? Magic? Sex? Dealing with Evil Beings?
Live life to the fullest. Nina doesn't see the point in being serious all the time or in being stuck in any given 'rutt' for too long. She's usually quick to cycle through emotions. She'll steal if she needs to do so to survive and she has no problems with lying though she won't lie to friends or people she really cares about. She doesn't much care for violence and when push comes to shove she does her best to stay back from the fray. She thinks magic is 'nifty' and 'shiny' and enjoys watching mages and sorcerers at work. She's garnered quite the fondness for sex though she's never thought about having it with anyone other than Mathias. She doesn't much care for evil monsters or people and will go out of her way to thwart their 'evil-ness' if she can.
5) How committed are you to seeing through something (a task, quest, bargain, etc) that you have started?
Nina looses focus easily sometimes. She always means well when she starts something, especially a task, but she might not always follow through. She always keeps her word and, as of yet, has never left a quest or bargain unfinished.
6) How important are the following to you?: Power, Wealth, Fame, Honor, Family, Friends, Love, Knowledge, Religion, Your job? To what lengths would you go to acquire or preserve these things?
Nina doesn't much care for power though, she loves gold and jewelry. As for fame… She loves being the center of attention and as such loves being around family and friends. She has a strong sense of justice and will go to great lengths to obtain/ presserve these things though she never steals or hurts innocent people for them. She believes love can over come anything, that love conquers all and as such would go as far as to die for it.
7) How often do you remember your dreams? How much attention do you pay to them? Do they inspire you? Guide you? Inspire You? Warn you? Frighten You?
Nina dreams often and she usually remembers them. Most of them are just odd, silly dreams in which her fingers and tail will twitch along with her ears. She pays attention to them as much as one might an entertaining book but they do not guide or inspire her. Sometimes she has nightmares but those are rare and few between and usually things like falling into a mud pit and getting dirty or being chased by a grasshopper.
8) What is your attitude towards magic? People who use it? Fearsome monsters? The unknown in general?
She thinks magic is 'nifty' and regards other people who use it with a sense of camaraderie. Fearsome monsters scare her and usually she place herself behind her adoptive brother and mate Mathias, hissing and baring her teeth at them while her fur stands on edge. The unkown doesn't bother her and with her inquisitiveness, she tends to dive headfirst into it to sate her curiosity.
F: Edges and Flaws
1) What are you especially good at? What sets you apart from the rest of the world? A skill? An unusual knack? A certain flair of style or wit?
Nina is good at cooking. She enjoys singing and dancing as well chasing things and simply playing. She's a bit sarcastic but good natured.
2) What flaws do you have? Bad habits? Obsessions? Terrible (or embarrassing) secrets?
She wears her emotions close to the surface and responds to them with a moments notice. She's prone to jealousy and has a quick to rise temper, though it tends to dissipate just as fast as it came. Sometimes she's not too good at knowing when to stop with the playing and be serious. She's obsessed with cleanliness and her most embarrassing secret is that she -really- likes 'surprise' sex.
3) Do you have any enemies? How much trouble do those conflicts cause you?
She's only ever had one enemy and that was Zeera, a young wolfen girl from back home who caught Mathias's attention and almost bedded him once. Seeing as Zeera is not in Avalon however, she is out of sight out of mind for Nina unless she decides to hang it over Mathias's head.
G: Likes and Dislikes
1) What do you love? (People? Places? Creatures? Kinds of Food? Activities? Subjects?)
All things with milk and cream in them, any kind of fish (excepting of course Anchovies), Mathias, Baths, Fantasy stories, horseplay, games, sex and the color pink.
2) What do you hate? How do you typically react to these hated things?
Nina hates bugs. Except for caterpillars, butterflies, ladybugs, dragonflies, moths and flies. Her typical reaction to them is jumping and screaming while pointing a finger at the offending insect and yelling 'Kill it kill it!'.
3) What do you fear? What is your worst nightmare?
Nina's worst nightmares include being eaten by bugs and losing Mathias as well as being so dirty she can never get the filth out of her fur.
E: Miscellaneous
1) Describe your first encounter with a nonhuman monster. (Not counting player races, animals, etc that you grew up with, but feel free to mention them too)
Her first encounter with a nonhuman monster was just after she left Havston where she managed to encounter a small band of orcs. The orcs caught her and tied her to a tree, trying to decide what to do with her before Mathias rode into their camp and saved her. Needless to say, she isn't so fond of orcs….
2) If you are a spellcaster, describe your first experience with using magic. What were the circumstances? Were you expecting it?
the first time she used magic she'd been rough housing with Mathias. They were playing a game of hide and seek and he'd managed to find her behind a tree when she was ten. She'd ran so he could catch her and when he came close to doing so and threatened to tackle her, she turned around and held up her hands to try and get him to stop, afraid that he might accidentally hurt her. The adrenaline surged through her and emerged in the form of a glowing surge of black magic with a shimmering green stream wrapped around it. The magic had knocked Mathias on his rear end and Nina of course had felt -horrible- for a few moments… Until she realized the bolt hadn't hurt him at all and he had just been milking it to lure her in closer so that he could playfully snatch her and ruffle her hair.
3) If you have an animal companion or familiar, describe how you acquired it. Describe this ally's personality, and its attitude towards you. (Loyal unto death, mischievous, lazy, etc)
Nina has no animal companion or familiar.
4) If you have any unusual possessions, describe how you acquired them. Is their value practical, monetary, sentimental or some combination of these?
She doesn't have any odd or unusual possessions.
F: Background
Nina was born along the East coast near Pixis in a small town completely composed of cat people. One night, when she was about a year old, a group of Drow came to the surface in the middle of the winter to raid the town. The majority of the people in Cheshire had been peaceful, peasant folk and when the drow came they were caught completely off guard and unawares. The town guard tried to fend off the drow with a few retired adventurers who could handle a weapon, allowing those that couldn't fight to flee. Nina's parents were among these people, taking to the snow and the wilds to try and flee the massacre only to encounter freezing temperatures and monsters along the way. Nina's parents were one of the last two to survive, finally losing their strength near a large forest along the edge of Pixis. Mauria fell with the little kitten clutched in her arms, dying in the snow with little Nina mewling and crying from hunger and cold.
She was found but a few hours after that by a large wolfen warrior by the name of Loren. He'd been out hunting for his family when he'd come across her fallen parents and heard her cries. He picked her up and sped back to his home with the one year old kitten in his arms. Upon arrival Catherine took and cared for the little kitten, nursing her back to health. The wolfen couple were more than happy to take her in, having wanted another child of their own but found out Catherine could no longer bear children. When the only thing little Nina could say was Mau, that's what they decided to call her. Of course, a three year old Mathias was not pleased with the situation, one an only child he now had a sibling to compete with, one who'd wrapped his father around her little pinkie since the moment she'd first batted those big, amber eyes of hers at him. When she turned five she decided that she wanted to be called 'Nina' and so that became her name, Catherine and Loren having assumed Mau to be her surname.
Mathias hated her. He did everything he could to make her miserable when she was little. Pulling her hair, stealing her toys, pushing her. He was punished for it every single time but he continued to persist up until a few days after Nina had turned seven. She'd been being bullied by some of the other wolfen children, being taunted for what she was, a cat. She watched with wide, surprised eyes as Mathias stepped between her and the other children, professing that the only one who could mess with his little sister was him. The other children had beaten him up of course, but they left just as injured as they'd made him. Nina had attached herself to Mathias's side ever since, much to his detriment.
She spent her days after that following him around, trying to involve herself in his and his friends games much like most little siblings do and of course, Mathias and his friends tried to ditch her at every turn. It wasn't until the day she'd tried to run down a hill to catch up with him and broke her ankle by wrenching it in a rabbit hole that it changed. She'd been eleven at the time and Mathias had heard her cries, running back to see what happened and gathering her up in his arms to take her home. Catherine had nearly beaten him silly with a wooden spoon on his rear end for the ordeal. Mathias had felt so guilty about it that he'd stay home and play games with his sister to help her pass the days, helping to care for her until her ankle mended. After that the two were inseparable.
Everywhere Nina went, Mathias was there too and vice versa. Over the next four years they became each others best friend. There wasn't a thing in the world that they kept hidden from each other… Well… Save for one thing. When Nina turned fifteen she began to develop feelings for the boy she'd looked upon as a brother for all these years. She'd begun falling in love with him. Of course, it hadn't been her -intention- to hide it from him, she'd dropped every hint she could thing of, had done just about everything besides blatantly telling and showing him but the dense headed boy had never caught on. It wasn't until he'd begun showing an interest in another girl that it really became a problem for Nina however.
Zeena was everything a wolfen boy could want in a mate. She was pretty with big blue eyes and fur the color of fresh fallen snow. She had raven hair and a likable personality. Everyone enjoyed being around her, except for Nina that is. She watched Zeena prance herself around all the boys, ears laid back, arms crossed and tail twitching with irritation. She didn't -really- start feeling the bite of jealousy until the days where Mathias would run off to talk to her in the middle of one of their games and when she saw them kiss things only got worse. She tried to talk to her brother, to dissuade him from pursuing the wolfen female but it didn't work. Things finally came to a head the night her brother stayed out late and she sneaked out only to find him naked and about to have sex with the girl.
She flipped. She'd launched herself at the pair, trying to claw out Zeena's eyes in a hissing, spitting ball of fury! Mathias managed to place himself between the pair, stopping the fight after Zeena threw the feline against a tree, completely shocked by his sister's actions. He demanded an explanation but Nina would give him none. Instead she ran, broken hearted and crying. She refused to talk to Mathias for the rest of the night, finally deciding that it was time to force herself to get over Mathias, certain that he could never feel the same for her as she did for him. She wrote two letters, one to Mathias and one to their parents, then she gathered her things and left atop her palomino horse, Star. Not that she got very far.
She'd managed to loose sight of the small path leading out of the village, traveling instead closer to the woods where she was ambushed by a pair of orcs who caught her by surprise. They knocked her unconscious, then took her back to their camp where they tied her to a tree. She awoke to them debating what to do with her. Whether they should rape her and eat her or eat her and then rape her. She wasn't quite sure how the latter would manage to work out. She'd tried to talk them out of doing anything to her, but it wasn't working and just when it seemed as if she was going to become lunch, Mathias arrived, slaying the creatures and freeing her. Her feelings were contradictory at that point. Granted, he'd just saved her life but then again, she'd left home to get away from him. He tried to convince her to return home but to no avail, Nina refused and so he decided to go with her. She tried to talk him out of it of course but he refused and so she had no choice but to accept.
It took them several hours before they arrived in town, Mathias having pulled Nina onto his own horse in front of him to keep her from falling off of his own considering how tired she'd gotten. He procured them a room at the 'Drunken Fist Inn and tavern' in Avalon's Market District. By the time Nina woke it was nearly noon and after she'd made her way downstairs to the tavern and had breakfast she was approached by an elven bard by the name of Ian. The bard was flattering her, speaking eloquently with silvery words of appraisal and compliments as Mathias came downstairs, watching as she left with the bard who promised to show her the town, leaving Mathias alone to his meal with little more than a few departing words. Perhaps Ian could help her forget about her affections for her brother?
The bard showed her the town, even took her out to one of Avalon's many restaurants for dinner before finally walking back to the Drunken Fist with her. He departed after stealing a kiss and feeling lighter than air, Nina made her way back to the bar… Where Mathias seemed none too happy. The pair got into an argument, Mathias trying to talk his sister out of her new infatuation but Nina would hear none of it and eventually Mathias made his way back up to their room while Nina remained at the bar, drinking. When she finally went back up stairs it was long into the night and she was completely slammed, stumbling over herself and crying. Mathias tried to speak to her but all she would do was yell at him, blaming him for something but never telling him what. She called him stupid, told him that she hated him before she finally curled up on the bed and bade him to leave her alone. Confused and very upset, Mathias made his way down into the tavern here he himself decided to have a few drinks, mulling over why his sister was behaving so strangely.
The next morning found Nina, unsurprisingly, with a hangover and very surprisingly… Walking down to witness a bar fight of sorts. Mathias was hitting Ian in the face, for what reason she didn't know, not until the second punch was let loose. Apparently Ian had been making passes at her while being married to someone else. Of course, Nina wasn't very happy to discover this and so she decided the bard needed a little punishing, gathering her breakfast and turning to watch the fight while she ate her breakfast only to spew a mouthful of yogurt across the room when Mathias professed that he loved her while beating the man senseless. She finally decided that enough was enough, moving to place herself between her brother and Ian before he incidentally killed the man. Somehow she doubted the city guard would appreciate that.
She spent five minute reaming into him, reprimanding him for his actions before he moved her aside only to vomit on the bard before he fell over. She wasn't pleased. It took a lot, ok not a lot, just a pair of breasts, to keep the bartender from calling in the city guard and having Mathias jailed. It took even more for her to drag his hulking frame up the stairs where she promptly left him on the floor with a pillow beneath his head and waited for him to wake. When he finally did, she snatched the pillow out from under his head, beginning to berate him for drinking as well as for stomping all over her feelings the past year. Though, with a giant hangover and his thick head, he didn't grasp onto what she was really saying until she told him she loved him, at which point everything seemed to click for him. He tried to speak to her again but Nina wouldn't listen, running off again only to pull herself into a tree outside of town. Mathias followed her.
He convinced her to come down from the tree, to have a civil conversation with him. She finally told him of her feelings, of how long she'd had them and why she'd attacked Zeena, why she'd left their home. Mathias professed that he'd been a fool for the past year, that he'd only gone after Zeena in his effort to get his mind off of her, afraid of what his friends and parents would think if he'd decided to pursue a relationship with her. After speaking for a long while, the two decided that it didn't matter what anyone said since they weren't biological siblings anyway. They decided to pursue a relationship, making their way back to the city hand in hand. Nina decided that staying at the Drunken Fist probably wasn't the best choice considering it was where Ian stayed and so the two happened upon Arcadia, where they've been staying ever since… Which is just about a week really…
