Character History:
Roan's life was simple at first. He was born in the Shatterlands, so growing up was full of excitement in his eyes. His father was one of the only Metalsmiths around, and with all of the onflict in the area life was decent. His older brother was a miner, gathering the much needed materials that was used in the family forge.
One night at the end of an uneventful day, his brother came running into his room, and barred the door. They were both to escape. Neither were proficient with weapons, even though their family made most of them. They wouldn't, however, make it too far. Roan grabbed what he could, and climbed out of the window. When he looked back, his brother was gone.
For 20 years he wandered, being rejected everywhere he went by the Dwarven populous. He abandoned his family, and his family left their clan in an attempt to expand. Now, he finally may have found a place to settle.
Roan-questionnaire
A: Appearance
1) Describe yourself as someone meeting you for the first time would see you. (Race?, Gender?, Age?, Size? Coloration? Attractiveness?, Dress? Do you try to emphasize or hide any of these features?)
A young, 30 year old Male Sunderd Dwarf. He has dirty peach colored skin, Red hair and Brown eyes. At this time, he dresses mainly in patched clothing, with more patches than original clothing.
Unfortunately, he's a little disgusting. His beard generally is caked with mud, food, and anything else that fell into it within the 3-4 weeks since his last bath.
2) What other details would someone notice on a closer look? (Distinguishing marks, birthmarks, scars, etc?)
His hands are well calloused, and there are burn-scars over most of his body. Most seem to be from the same injury, though some of them seem fresher … mainly those on his arms.
3) Do you have a distinctive way of speaking or any other mannerisms or memorable behavior?
He pretty specifically hates Elves, but will try to tolerate them until he feels he has a reason to pick a fight with them.
He also doesn't really trust that a magic user would be much use in a fight.
B: Birth and Family
1) Where and when were you born? (Also good to include: Do you know your exact birthdate? Did anything unusual (storms, accidents, deaths, etc?) happen about the same time, with which some people might still associate your birthdate?)
He was born in the Second day of Chron 30 years ago in Fissure, in the Shatterlands.
2) Who are your parents? (Names, Occupations, Social class, Were they married?, Are they still alive? are all good things to include)
He was too young to have learned his parents acual names … because he was 10 at the time that they perished.
His mother and father were both Smiths, and they were Married even though it was arranged that they were to marry other people.
3) Do you have any siblings? (If so, it would be good to describe them as you did your parents above.)
He has one brother, Gaunther, and his brother was a miner by trade. His brother brought home the ores and metals needed for smithing. He saved Roan's life when they were raided by assisting in his escape.
4) Do you know any members of your extended family? (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins? Also would be good to describe them as above)
No. His clan had forsaken his family when they turned their back on the community and married against the will of the previous generation.
5) How did you get along with your family?
He is exiled from his own clan by extension, but he is not prevented from marrying into another clan if another clan would accept him.
C: Education and Work
1) Did you serve an apprenticeship in order to learn your current profession/class? For how long?
Roan for as long as he could remember up to the death of his family has watched and learned from their smithing. When they died, he would move from Smithy to Smithy. Unfortunately, he was never content with a Smithy that was run by anyone not a Dwarf, and only lasted long enough to learn bits and pieces of his trade.
Eventually, he found a Dwarven Smithy, and trained under him for 5 years before moving on to the City.
2) If you were not an apprentice, how did you learn your trade/skills/ect? Formal schooling? Informal Teachers? Self-Taught?
Although some was self taught, he was trained as an apprentice for 5 years.
3) Who was your master or teacher? (Race? Gender? Appearance? Personality?) Is he/she still alive? How were you treated? Are/Were you on good terms with your master?
Lucana Silversmith was his teacher. She was a female Dwarven Smithy that, for the most part, put up with no nonsense. She didn't care about clan, status, or money. She cared that she saw a potential in him, and he followed instruction.
So long as he followed instruction she would teach him, and after 5 years she sent him out to learn on his own terms.
There are no "good terms" with Lucana. She was either indifferent, or you were on her bad side. Luckily, Roan was indifference.
4) Did your teacher have any other apprentices or students? Who were they? Did you get along?
No, there were no others. She was far too strict.
5) Due to the rarity of literacy in this setting, how important are books, writings, letters, ect. to your character? Regardless as to whether or not he/she can read?
They aren't important at all, except maybe as a doorstop.
6) Do you have a job other than "adventurer"? Who do you work for? How much of your time does this require?
He is a smith, and tries to put as much time into it as possible. Currently, he is looking either to open his own smithy, or to work for someone.
D: Friends
1) Who were your friends as a child? As an adolescent? As an adult?
His only friend as a child was his brother, but with him dead he never saw a reason to have friends. They only die or go away.
2) How many of these people are still alive? How many are you still friends with?
None. Roan is alone.
3) Who is/was your best friend? What is the most memorable thing that the two of you ever did together?
His brother was his best friend. The most memorable thing that he ever did was that he went with his brother to mine a specific piece of ore.
After mining it, he created a small buckler to show his father. His father, though, did not see any value in it and chastised the boy.
4) What do you look for in a friend?
Someone that will have a drink with him and have his back in a fight.
5) Have you ever been in love? Was it reciprocated? Do you have (or have you had) a boy-/girlfriend, a lover, or a spouse? More than one? Are you looking for one? What do you look for in a romantic partner?
No, he never has been in love or had a partner. He is not actively looking, but he would look for a partner that was a Dwarf Female that is as strong as he is and can drink as much as he can.
E: Attitudes and Beliefs
1) What are your beliefs about religion and the afterlife? Do you follow any particular god or gods? What appeals to you most about this religion? Least?
Moradin is his god of choice, but he doesn't go out of his way to spread the word.
Moradin, being the god that his parents and brother followed, was just a natural way for him to go. He can't read, and he's had no one to teach him, so he just hasn't changed.
2) Where do spirits of nature, the elements and the dead fit into these beliefs?
For the most part, he doesn't care what the moral beliefs of any religion tells him. He'll kill it if it's in his way or if he needs something from it. If it's not bothering him or anyone he'll leave it alone.
3) What gods, religions, or priesthoods will you have nothing to do with?
Any of them really. Roan has never stepped foot in a church.
4) What is your moral code? Under what conditions will you kill? Steal? Lie? Do you have a personal code of behavior about violence? Magic? Sex? Dealing with Evil Beings?
Roan will only kill if he feels that it's not a decidedly evil thing to do based on the circumstances. Stealing just doesn't happen, and lying is generally reserved for his past.
As far as magic, it's the weak person's way to attempt to get into the fight, but has no place on the battlefield.
5) How committed are you to seeing through something (a task, quest, bargain, etc) that you have started?
Roan doesn't give up once he's set his mind to something. He'd rather die fighting than live knowing he might have been able to do more.
6) How important are the following to you?: Power, Wealth, Fame, Honor, Family, Friends, Love, Knowledge, Religion, Your job? To what lengths would you go to acquire or preserve these things?
Power : Physical prowess is important
Wealth : Money is nice, but not needed to keep happy.
Fame : Too much attention is not always a good thing.
Honor : Honor is the most important thing in the world. To regain the honor his parents lost him, he wants to one day settle down with a wife and start his own clan.
Family : He wishes to have one, but his past family is something he keeps out of his mind.
Knowledge : The only knowledge that's important is the knowledge of his craft.
Religion : Doesn't really concern him.
Job : Smithing is his life.
He'll do anything short or something immoral or illegal to obtain those things important to him.
7) How often do you remember your dreams? How much attention do you pay to them? Do they inspire you? Guide you? Inspire You? Warn you? Frighten You?
He hasn't remembered his dreams since his family was killed. He knows nightmares haunt him every night though.

Magic is for those too weak to use a proper weapon. They should stay home and to the wash with their mothers.
Monsters don't frighten him .. his crafted weapons and armor will prevail.
The unknown is a challenge.

He is especially good as smithing, and is a little better with armor than weapons. He has a knack for figuring things out when it comes to working with metal and stone.

He smokes and drinks a lot, but being a Dwarf it isn't that bad.
3) Do you have any enemies? How much trouble do those conflicts cause you?
No enemies at this time, though that could change.

Elves and magic. Generally, he'll remain civil until he has an excuse not to.

His worst nightmares are just that … the nightmares he has in his dreams. He doesn't remember them though.
H: Miscellaneous

His first encounter with a monster was three days after the raid. He had to hunt for food, and killed some deer for food. Unfortunately, some Dire Wolves caught the sent not too long after and were on top of it.
Roan escaped using the deer as bait.

Roan started off as the product of a master smith and his wife. His older brother, a miner, was supplying the family with the much needed materials to keep the family busy.
It was the hope of the parents that Roan would grow up to run the forge, and that he and his brother would be able to take over the business, keeping a life for themselves and starting their own clan.
Unfortunately, that was cut short, and Roan is now the last of his family.
Now in the big City, Roan hopes to accomplish the goals his parents set out for him and his brother alone. He wishes to open his own smithy, find a wife, and begin his own clan entered around the Craft.
