Class Abilities:
Maneuvers: You begin your career with knowledge of three martial maneuvers. The disciplines available to you are Diamond Mind, Iron Heart, Stone Dragon,
Tiger Claw,and White Raven.
Once you know a maneuver, you can use it (see Maneuvers per Encounter, below). A maneuver usable by warblades is considered an extraordinary ability unless
otherwise noted in its description. Your maneuvers are not affected by spell resistance, and you do not provoke attacks of opportunity when you initiate one.
You learn additional maneuvers at higher levels, as shown on the above table. You must meet a maneuver’s prerequisite to learn it. See details on Blade
Magic or the bottom of this page.
Upon reaching 4th level, and at every even-numbered warblade level after that (6th, 8th, 10th, and so on), you can choose to learn a new maneuver in place
of one you already know. In effect, you lose the old maneuver in exchange for the new one. You can choose a new maneuver of any level you like, as long as
you observe your restriction on the highest-level maneuvers you know; you need not replace the old maneuver with a maneuver of the same level. For example,
upon reaching 10th level, you could trade in a single 1st-, 2nd-, 3rd- or 4th-level maneuver for a maneuver of 5th level or lower, as long as you meet the
prerequisite of the new maneuver. You can swap only a single maneuver at any given level.
Maneuvers Per Encounter: You can use all three of the maneuvers you know at 1st level, but as you advance in level and learn more maneuvers, you must choose
which maneuvers to use. You begin an encounter with all your maneuvers unexpended, regardless of how many times you might have already used them before.
When you initiate a maneuver, you expend it for the current encounter, so each of your maneuvers can be used once per encounter (until you recover them, as
described below). You can recover all expended maneuvers with a single swift action, which must be immediately followed in the same round with a melee attack
or using a standard action to do nothing else in the round (such as executing a quick, harmless flourish with your weapon). You cannot initiate a maneuver
or change your stance while you are recovering your expended maneuvers, but you can remain in a stance in which you began your turn.
Stances Known: You begin play with knowledge of one 1stlevel stance from any discipline open to warblades. At 4th, 10th, and 16th level, you can choose
additional stances. Unlike maneuvers, stances are not expended, and you do not have to ready them. All the stances you know are available to you at all
times, and you can change the stance you are currently using as a swift action. A stance is an extraordinary ability unless otherwise stated in the stance
description. Unlike with maneuvers, you cannot learn a new stance at higher levels in place of one you already know.
Battle Clarity (Ex): You can enter a state of almost mystical awareness of the battlefield around you. As long as you are not flat-footed, you gain an
insight bonus equal to your Intelligence bonus (maximum equals your warblade level) on your Reflex saves.
Weapon Aptitude (Ex): Your training with a wide range of weaponry and tactics gives you great skill with particular weapons. You qualify for feats that
usually require a minimum number of fighter levels (such as Weapon Specialization) as if you had a fighter level equal to your warblade level –2. For
example, as a 6th-level warblade, you could take Weapon Specialization, since you’re treated as being a 4th-level fighter for this purpose. These effective
fighter levels stack with any actual fighter levels you have. Thus, a fighter 2/warblade 4 would also qualify for Weapon Specialization. You also have the
flexibility to adjust your weapon training. Each morning, you can spend 1 hour in weapon practice to change the designated weapon for any feat you have
that applies only to a single weapon (such as Weapon Focus).
You must have the newly designated weapon available during your practice session to make this change. For example, if you wish to change the
designated weapon for your Weapon Focus feat from greatsword to longsword, you must have a longsword available to practice with during your practice
session. You can adjust any number of your feats in this way, and you don’t have to adjust them all in the same way. However, you can’t change the weapon
choices in such a way that you no longer meet the prerequisite for some other feat you possess. For instance, if you have both Weapon Focus (longsword) and
Weapon Specialization (longsword), you can’t change the designated weapon for Weapon Focus unless you also change the weapon for Weapon Specialization in
the same way.
Uncanny Dodge (Ex): At 2nd level, you gain the ability to react to danger before your senses would normally allow you to do so. You retain your Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if you are caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, you still lose your Dexterity bonus to AC if you are immobilized. If you already have uncanny dodge from a different class (barbarian or rogue, for example), you automatically gain improved uncanny dodge (see below) instead.
Battle Ardor (Ex): The sheer love of battle lends uncanny strength to your blows. Starting at 3rd level, you gain an insight bonus equal to your Intelligence bonus on rolls made to confirm critical hits.
Racial Abilities:
* Human characters get a +2 bonus to one ability score of their choice at creation to represent their varied nature.
* Medium: Humans are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
* Normal Speed: Humans have a base speed of 30 feet.
* Bonus Feat: Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
* Skilled: Humans gain an additional four skill points at first level, and an additional one at every level after.
* Languages: Humans begin play speaking Common. Humans with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages,
such as Druidic).

Questionnaire:
A: Appearance
1) Describe yourself as someone meeting you for the first time would see you. (Race?, Gender?, Age?, Size? Coloration? Attractiveness?, Dress? Do you try to emphasize or hide any of these features?)
Yae is a man of medium height, with short black hair and brown eyes. Human, in his early twenties, he usually dresses rather casually. He grew up on a farm, where a shirt and breeches were the order of the day. He can usually be found with simple clothes, a scarf in winter, and usually wearing gloves. Sporting olive skin, it’s not uncommon for him to be seen with a tan during the summer months.
2) What other details would someone notice on a closer look? (Distinguishing marks, birthmarks, scars, etc?)
Not really visible when wearing clothes, he has quite a few scars along his torso and back if seen shirtless. Very old, and clearly made with blades, he doesn’t talk about them much.
3) Do you have a distinctive way of speaking or any other mannerisms or memorable behavior?
Yae is usually polite and pleasant, often upbeat in situations that wouldn’t normally call for it. He’s quick to make a joke, and hard to anger. Very curious and inquisitive, he thinks hard when it comes to solving problems. He will never back from a challenge, though he might go about winning in an unorthodox manner.
B: Birth and Family
1) Where and when were you born? (Also good to include: Do you know your exact birthdate? Did anything unusual (storms, accidents, deaths, etc?) happen about the same time, with which some people might still associate your birthdate?)
Yae was born in the late spring, in a small farm house not terribly far from Avalon itself. It was a warm, sunny day with nothing out of the ordinary happening…
2) Who are your parents? (Names, Occupations, Social class, Were they married?, Are they still alive? are all good things to include)
Yae’s parents were Kai and Lynn Saryu. Lynn was from Avalon, while Kai was a traveler from far off. The family farm in which Yae was born and grew up in was passed to his mother when his grandparents passed. They both were farmers.
3) Do you have any siblings? (If so, it would be good to describe them as you did your parents above.)
Yae is an only child.
4) Do you know any members of your extended family? (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins? Also would be good to describe them as above)
Yae never met any of his extended family from either side. However, while he has never met them, he knows that his father still has living blood.
5) How did you get along with your family?
Yae got along well with his parents till they were killed, though since he never interacted with anyone else in his family, no one else can be accounted for.
C: Education and Work
1) Did you serve an apprenticeship in order to learn your current profession/class? For how long?
His father first taught him blacksmithing, how to make and mend tools and weapons. When his parents passed, he did a bit of work for several different crafters and trades within the city, though actual practice was mostly self-taught through trial and error.
2) If you were not an apprentice, how did you learn your trade/skills/ect? Formal schooling? Informal Teachers? Self-Taught?
See above. His mother also helped him learn how to read. She herself was taught by her own mother.
3) Who was your master or teacher? (Race? Gender? Appearance? Personality?) Is he/she still alive? How were you treated? Are/Were you on good terms with your master?
See aboce.
4) Did your teacher have any other apprentices or students? Who were they? Did you get along?
Since she was an only child, it could be said his “teacher” did not.
5) Due to the rarity of literacy in this setting, how important are books, writings, letters, ect. to your character? Regardless as to whether or not he/she can read?
Literacy is important to Yae in regards to teaching himself how to accomplish something. He considers himself strongly a self-made man, and as such, the reading skills taught to him by his mother are valuable to that end.
6) Do you have a job other than "adventurer"? Who do you work for? How much of your time does this require?
Yae is slowly gaining a reputation for crafting things at his old family’s home. Since attempting to restore the rundown house, when not out doing dangerous feats of heroism, he can be found working on some new project.
D: Friends
1) Who were your friends as a child? As an adolescent? As an adult?
Yae had a few friends growing up, mostly from neighboring farms. He lost touch with them as he grew up.
2) How many of these people are still alive? How many are you still friends with?
Yae sadly wouldn’t know at this point who was alive still.
3) Who is/was your best friend? What is the most memorable thing that the two of you ever did together?
Yae probably wouldn’t have claimed to have a best friend, now or in the past. It could be said, however, that his best friend was his mother.
4) What do you look for in a friend?
Yae’s biggest factor when it comes to making friends is trust and honest. Trust and honesty are the largest foundations upon which any type of relationship can be based. Though he would admit that it’s not a bad thing to make friends with good looking women for looks alone…He’s not really that shallow, honest.
5) Have you ever been in love? Was it reciprocated? Do you have (or have you had) a boy-/girlfriend, a lover, or a spouse? More than one? Are you looking for one? What do you look for in a romantic partner?
Yae had a somewhat romantic relationship with Miyako in the past, though since she has left his household, he wouldn’t be sure if he could actually call it love…there had been deep attraction of course but…Well moving on, he’s not sure what he’s exactly looking for in a romantic partner, though honesty and trust would again play a big factor. He probably needs someone that wouldn’t be afraid to whip him into shape and keep him on task.
E: Attitudes and Beliefs
1) What are your beliefs about religion and the afterlife? Do you follow any particular god or gods? What appeals to you most about this religion? Least?
Despite being a morally upstanding individual, Yae doesn’t actually follow any one god or religion. He’s more or less agnostic about the whole deal, in the sense that he isn’t sure what he feels he should follow. He’d rather rely on instinct, on what feels right to him. Though, he does feel a bit partial to Bahamut.
2) Where do spirits of nature, the elements and the dead fit into these beliefs?
Feh, nature! Actually, coming from a family with strong roots in agriculture (pun!) he understands how important nature really is. Elementals he’s neutral about, and the undead are…creepy. But, not always evil. Just usually.
3) What gods, religions, or priesthoods will you have nothing to do with?
Really, really evil god and religions, such as ones that feast on the flesh of virgins. What a waste of virgins!
4) What is your moral code? Under what conditions will you kill? Steal? Lie? Do you have a personal code of behavior about violence? Magic? Sex? Dealing with Evil Beings?
Yae’s moral code is as followed: Don’t be a dick. Everything else is vague at best! What this usually means is that he’s inclined to follow the law, mostly because its easier to do that, but he’ll break the law if it goes against his moral high ground.
5) How committed are you to seeing through something (a task, quest, bargain, etc) that you have started?
If he promises he’ll do something, he’ll do his best to get it done, but he’s pretty good at knowing his limits. He’ll do his best, or be upfront if something’s impossible. But sometimes…he’ll just do something for the challenge!
6) How important are the following to you?: Power, Wealth, Fame, Honor, Family, Friends, Love, Knowledge, Religion, Your job? To what lengths would you go to acquire or preserve these things?
Lame…GOLD!…Lame…Lame…Family is awesome…Friends are cool…love is great…knowledge is power!…lame…work? No one truly works who’s honest with what they wish to do in life. If you’re doing what you love, you’re hardly working. *cough* Yae would probably do anything to protect friends and family, and he’d go to great lengths for those he loved.
7) How often do you remember your dreams? How much attention do you pay to them? Do they inspire you? Guide you? Inspire You? Warn you? Frighten You?
Dreams? Psssh. Yae sleeps like a rock. It’s the only time his brain doesn’t hate him with THOUGHTS and FEELINGS.
8) What is your attitude towards magic? People who use it? Fearsome monsters? The unknown in general?
He thinks magic is cool, but less in how it’s used, and more in how it works. He finds the function behind magic to be a curious thing. He has respect for wizards, well the non-dick ones. Fearsome monsters are something to finish off in a challenge, and the unknown is stuff he just hasn’t learned yet!
F: Edges and Flaws
1) What are you especially good at? What sets you apart from the rest of the world? A skill? An unusual knack? A certain flair of style or wit?
Yae is really good at working under pressure and not sweating stressful situations. He’ll gladly laugh in the face of danger and make light of any situation. He can smile during the grimmest time, and prides himself with figuring out how to do anything if instructions have been written about it.
2) What flaws do you have? Bad habits? Obsessions? Terrible (or embarrassing) secrets?
Yae is not good with admitting he’s wrong. He’s also not good at asking for directions, but this is hardly uncommon. He’ll often push himself past his limit when working on a project, or during a fight, with sometimes dangerous results.
3) Do you have any enemies? How much trouble do those conflicts cause you?
He used to view Conall as a rival for Miyako’s affection, though now that she’s no longer around, he hardly cares about that anymore, and would probably get along well with the bard if he meets him again.
G: Likes and Dislikes
1) What do you love? (People? Places? Creatures? Kinds of Food? Activities? Subjects?)
Solitude, a good time, making things, breaking things, learning a new skill, the first bite into a pickle.
2) What do you hate? How do you typically react to these hated things?
Being proved wrong, birds.
3) What do you fear? What is your worst nightmare?
Blowing himself up with something he makes. Who wants to die in an accident?
H: Miscellaneous
1) Describe your first encounter with a nonhuman monster. (Not counting player races, animals, etc that you grew up with, but feel free to mention them too)
On his very first job as an adventurer, he stabbed a goblin!
2) If you are a spellcaster, describe your first experience with using magic. What were the circumstances? Were you expecting it?
He…waved a wand he shouldn’t have, and turned a vine into a snake…it got better.
3) If you have an animal companion or familiar, describe how you acquired it. Describe this ally's personality, and its attitude towards you. (Loyal unto death, mischievous, lazy, etc)
Does not apply.
4) If you have any unusual possessions, describe how you acquired them. Is their value practical, monetary, sentimental or some combination of these?
He still holds the deed to his parent’s place, which he’s been fixing up over time.
5) Please describe your characters general background, this may be any length you wish, but at least one paragraph. You may use any or all of the information above, or new information not covered. (Encouraged)
*The fire crackles loudly, embers dancing around the shadowy illumination of the dark haired young man…*
I hate talking about myself. I'm not sure if its because I hate my own past, or if its because I find myself totally uninteresting. But since you asked, I'll spin a tail…
I was born in a small cottage, far off into the countryside. My father, well at the time, he was a farmer. He used the land around to grow pretty much what you'd assume a farmer would grow. I'd like to say that he was a quiet man, but I'll admit: my father was the king of talking about nothing. If you asked him a question about the weather, he'd somehow turn that question into an entire conversation about the practical application of knives. By the gods, he'd never shut up about anything.
My mother…well, she was an herbalist before she met my father. She made medicine for a nearby village, but…I was a rather sickly child, you see, so it was hard for her to continue her work and take care of me for those early years.
Despite the fact that I was often sick, I had a pretty uneventful childhood. My mother was a very big pusher for early education, and tutored me every day. Even when I was suffering from a harsh fever, I'd still be reading over some book or another. But thankfully, by the time I was in my early teens, my health became a bit better. In fact, its been some 5 years since I was last sick even.
When I was 16, however…well there was a group of bandits that wanted our food. They also had their eyes set on our horses. There was at least ten of of them…and my father was too proud to seek help from anyone else…
*He pauses a moment, looking into the fire…*
My mother was wounded…so I had to find her help. I ended up carrying her to this city, where she was atleast able to somewhat recover. I don't think anything could ever treat her mind, though. She still sits in bed, just…staring out a window, watching people pass…I took up this line of work to take care of her, you know. But…
*He glances out the window…*
It’s getting late. I apologize…if you wish to know more, seek me out another time.
